What Do Stairlifts Cost

Whether you call them Stairlifts, Chair Lifts, Stair Lifts or Stair-Lifts or Stair Climbers the main question on everyone's mind is: “what is the actual cost”? While this seems a simple enough question the answer to it is anything but.

Stannah Stairlifts are unique as every Stairlift is modified (straight stairlifts) or custom-build (curved) to allow the perfect fit for you and your home. Whilst this is one of the main advantages it is also one of the reasons that make it a lot harder to give an accurate estimated cost price. However as the cost is an important deciding factor we have put together this small article to provide information about the different types of Stairlifts available and a ballpark figure of the cost you should be expecting.

.

What Stairlift do you need?
First of all, you have to determine if you need a straight Stair-Lift or curved Stair-Lift. If you have a straight staircase, in fact, this is an easy question to answer.

However if the staircase is curved you have to decide if you want a curved Chair Lift or if you want to straight stairlifts, while this option is less than perfect, it is cheaper then a curved chairlift.

Why are curved stairlifts so expensive? Like everything in life if you want lasting and quality workmanship it doesn't come cheap. All Stannah curved Stair-lifts are custom made to suit your staircase. This is achieved by taking a detailed Photo Survey of your staircase. The pictures and then uploaded into a computer program which created a three-dimensional drawing (CAD) of your stairs. This is the same software that is used by architects and engineers all over the world. Based on these drawings each piece of rail is custom made to ensure that it exactly suits your staircase.

What Chair is right for you?
Depending on your above decision you can choose from 4 or 5 different Seats, that all offer different inclusive and optional features. However, you will find that the inclusive Features of Stannah Chairs are a lot more comprehensive than those of other Stairlift Manufacturers. These Features include Power Swivel and Manual Swivel, Wireless Controls, seatbelts, safety edges, adjustable armrests and seat sensors.

When our trained consultant visits you to assess your stairs, he or she will explain the different key features of the Chairs available as well as give you a recommendation, based on your needs and the layout of your home.

What do they Cost?

Now that you have a clearer picture of how our Chair Lifts are made and their placement in the market, we can come back to answering the initial question. It is important to bear in mind that this is an estimate only, and when comparing this price to other suppliers, it is important to understand that you may be comparing pears to oranges, as different brands offer various inclusive features and chair options. For this exercise, we have decided to use a mid range Chair for a one storey house.

For a straight Stair lift, you are looking at a cost of $5,000 - $10,000 including measure, site survey installation and freight. For a Curved Stair Climber with a custom-made rail to suit your homes corners, inclines and landings you should expect to pay anywhere between $12,000 and $18,000.

While this seems and is a lot of money you will find it worth it in the end. It is a lot cheaper than moving house not to mention the peace of mind that comes with knowing that you won't have to leave and can move around your home freely and most importantly safely.
