Good Sleep Habits!

What are  Good sleep habits?
Good sleep habits are also known as good sleep hygiene. Sleep can be improved using numerous differ things. While many are common sense, it can be easy to forget about these in the hustle and bustle of everyday life. A lot of people struggle with achieving a good nights sleep. If you are one of them keep reading below, and you might be able to learn some ways to improve your night's rest.

The below outline a few of the things that you can do to achieve a good nights sleep
•    try to go to bed and wake up at the same time
•    Take an hour before going to bed to relax and wind down, this can be done by reading a book, a hot bath or any other activity that helps you to unwind
Try to eat an hour or two before going to bed to avoid going to bed with a full stomach
•    If you haven't managed to fall asleep in 20 mins and you are still awake,  leave your bedroom until you feel tired again and then go
back to bed
•    Don’t have things in the bedroom that distract you from sleep
•    Getting some fresh air and sunlight during the day will help you to sleep better
•    Try to avoid napping in the evening, as this can make it hard to sleep at night

Good evening habits
Try to go to bed around the same time each night. Our bodies have an internal clock and hormones that control sleepiness and wakefulness. This clock works best if there is a regular sleep routine. When functioning well, you will feel sleepy at bedtime. Try not to ignore the sleepy feeling by staying up, as this is a window of opportunity for sleep. If you go to bed too early, you can also unintentionally disturb your sleep. In the hour before going to bed, it is important to try and relax for a while, this can include a warm bath, reading quietly or a warm milk drink. Make sure you got to the toilet before going to bed to avoid having to get up in the night.

Things to avoid in the evening
Cut out Caffeine at least 4 hours before
Going to bed. If you enjoy a hot coffee or tea in the evening op for a decaffeinated option. Keep in mind that caffein can be found in much different of beverages such as soft drinks. Smoking also makes it
difficult to go to sleep, so there should be no cigarettes
Before going to bed or during the night. While you might find that Alcohol relaxes you and helps you get to sleep, it will make it harder to stay asleep. It can cause issues such as
snoring
and
sleep
apnoea
Activities that are stimulating should be avoided in the hour before bed. This includes moderate exercise, computer games, television, movies and important discussions.
