1. Single or Dual Motors
Electric lift chair are fitted with either one or two motors. Models with one motor aren't as adjustable as models with two motors.

Single Motor Chairs have only 2 buttons on to Handset “up” and “down”. All our single motor chairs move the backrest first followed by the footrest, so you can recline without fully lifting your legs, allowing for more choice then models where feet and back operate simultaneously. The 2 button option can be easier for those with poor cognitive ability, dementia or Alzheimer’s.
Dual Motor lift and recliner chairs allow the back rest and the footrest to be adjusted independently of each other. The Handset has 6 well marked controls to adjust Backrest (up/down) Footrest (up/down) and the lift and recline function all independently, allowing for a larger amount of unique seating positions.

2. Size of the User
The size of the user should be taken into consideration when choosing a chair. Lift and recliner chairs are available in different sizes, as people are different sizes. A chair for a petite person will not offer the right levels of support and comfort for a very tall person, and vice versa. It is important to get the right size lift recline chair to ensure the correct posture is maintained and to minimize the chance of pressure build-up.
Seat widths, depths and heights are all important to consider as well as backrest height and width. Bluesky Healthcare also offers custom-made chairs, made individually to you and your measurements.
It should be remembered that unlike mobility scooters and powerchairs, optional extras aren't really available for riser recliner chairs, so it is advisable to make sure that the model chosen fits the user's requirements.

3. Environmental Factors / Space
Standard lift chairs require clearance behind them to recline fully and therefore must be positioned some distance from the wall or other objects. Consideration needs to be given to the available space in the room and how the chair will look positioned away from the wall. If the chair hits the wall when reclined it is likely to cause damage to either the chair, the wall or both. To avoid this issue some models have the space saver, or “wall glider” mechanism. These lift chairs may be positioned as close as 15cm from a wall.

4. Comfort Levels
Different models electric lift chair have different types of back, and the amount and sort of support required will vary from person to person. There are also different type of Chair types that should be considered before making a decision. Tilt in Space chairs, regular lift and recline chairs and bed chair lift and recline chairs all offer different functions and comforts.

5. Appearance
Riser recliner chairs are available in different colours and different fabrics, including leather. It should be possible to find a suitable chair that will fit in with the existing decor and colour scheme in the room
